Job Description

Job Title: Career Navigator

Division: Mission Services

Department: Career Services

Reports To: Director or Program Coordinator

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY

Provides Case Management, Employment Preparation Services, Job Placement, and Job Retention Services to program participants in Career Services programs. Provides group and individual educational and vocational guidance services in line with the most current job trends and labor market needs to best assist participants in finding employment. Counsel’s participants and prepares them for employment and ensure program participants are progressing towards the goals identified in the Individual Plan. Develop relationships with employers and community partners. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Maintains accurate and complete records for all program participants for the purpose of case file maintenance, program reporting, and monthly billing.

Conducts outreach, intake, assessments, and orientations for Career Services Programs.

Collects, organizes, and analyzes information about individuals through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources to appraise participants’ interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics for vocational planning and/or employment placements.

Compiles, studies, and provides occupational, educational and economic information to participants to assist them in setting and carrying out vocational and educational goals and objectives.

Develops individual plan for participants that include appropriate goals and objectives relative to abilities, interests, needs, experience, assessments, and labor market trends and updates as needed. Tracks participant progress to ensure continual progression towards their goals.

Assists individuals to understand and overcome barriers to employment and determines the support services necessary to overcome these barriers.

Conducts individual and group-based pre-employment training. Conducts ESL training (as needed and assigned for ESL participants). Provides job development services to participants.

Participates in Rapid Response activities to provide timely services to dislocated individuals.

Identifies vocational training opportunities in the community. Develops and maintains effective relationships with vocational training partners. Refers and coordinates vocational training for participants as needed.

Develops and maintains effective relationships with business and industry in order to educate and advises regarding program services. Engages local businesses to promote the hiring of program participants. 

Provides job placement support services to assure job maintenance and retention.

Assists participants in identifying other resources to enhance their opportunities for employment within the community and makes referrals as needed.

Records all participants and other stakeholders contact (case noting).

Communicates professionally with supervisors, coworkers, program participants, community agencies, and other stakeholders involved in service provision.

Assists in developing and updating pre-employment training materials and curriculum. Selects or develops teaching aids such as multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials etc. to enhance participant learning. 

Ability to deal effectively with difficult and on occasion, irate participants. Demonstrates ability to deescalate individuals with tact and understanding.

Conducts work in a safe and responsible manner, utilizing protective clothing and/or equipment when appropriate. Complies with all safety standards.

Responsible for awareness of and adherence to all company and safety policies and procedures.

Ensures that confidentiality is maintained in accordance with contract, State, and Federal law including HIPAA.

Responsible to understand and support CARF accreditation standards.

Attends and participates in meetings, staff development sessions and in-service training as assigned.

Works on other projects or tasks as assigned by the Program Coordinator, Director or VP.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university preferred and one to two years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience; Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. For positions requiring working with immigrants, Human Services experience within the immigrant community is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. For position requiring working with immigrants, ability to communicate in a second language is required (Micronesian languages - Chuukese, Marshallese etc. preferred.)

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Travel is required, must have a valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle.
